CLIFTON -- The driver killed by a train on Sunday worked as a police dispatcher at William Paterson University for six years and was a dedicated employee and father, campus Police Chief Michael Horvath said Monday.

James L. Brown, 34, of Passaic was killed when his 2006 Jeep LCF Wagon became stuck on NJ Transit train tracks near Park Avenue and Rutherford Boulevard and was struck by an oncoming train. He lived less than a mile from the site of the 5:21 a.m. accident, said Dan Stessel, a spokesman for the transit agency.
