U.S. District Court Judge Jose L. Linares stood before 37 candidates for U.S. citizenship - and 150 middle and high school students from throughout Passaic County - as living proof that anything is possible.

"I, like you, stood in line waiting for my green card," said the Cuban native, who was 18 when he was sworn in as a naturalized citizen in Newark. "Thirty years later, I was sitting in the White House being told by the president that I was being appointed to the federal bench of the United States.
