I THINK Rutgers will make a big mistake if it eliminates Douglass College. The state university's proposal to simplify and streamline life for undergraduates is a good one. It would create one standard for admissions, one core curriculum and one honors program. That would be far less confusing than it is now.
But Douglass is unique in that it is the only women's college in the nation at a major research university. If the reform plan goes through, the new Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences will have more than 25,000 students - and the benefits of a small women-centered community that Douglass offers will be lost.See the full content of this document
