PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Dan Warthen stood behind Livan Hernandez in the bullpen Monday afternoon, when the Mets' pitching coach shouted out to catcher Dave Racaniello, "Close your eyes on this one." Hernandez threw a pitch that slapped into the mitt without Racaniello having to move his glove an inch - although he admitted that he kept one eye open.

It might be a dangerous lesson - or would have been if the catcher really closed his eyes and Hernandez was not so pinpoint with his control - but it's all about trust.
