Summary
It was a good week for striped bass if you were lucky enough to be in a boat and at the Shrewsbury Rocks in northern Monmouth County. Good action has been taking place all around the Rocks as sea herring and striped bass have been present in large concentrations. Each morning, as early as first light, birds were diving on sea herring as the bass pushed these baits to the surface. Pulling up to these areas and casting into them produced instant results with a hookup.
The good news is, the size of striped bass has increased in the last week. There still are many bass under the 28-inch minimum size, but a larger school of fish has also moved into the area.
