Volunteers Building Storage for Pantry to Keep Perishables

Summary

WANAQUE -- The Wanaque Feeds the Hungry food pantry will soon have a dedicated storage facility that will expand its ability to provide perishable items for residents in need.

A volunteer effort is under way to build a 400-square-foot building that will be used mostly to house refrigerators, freezers and other storage space for the pantry. Most of the materials for the project were donated. Borough police Detective Charlie Sahanas and Sgt. Charlie Huber helped lay the foundation and built cinderblock walls. Passaic County Freeholder Ed O'Connell is volunteering his time to lay the roof, and inmates from the Passaic County Jail also are helping through the Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program.
