The Episcopal Diocese of Newark has nominated four candidates, including an openly gay priest, to run in its election for bishop a move that could potentially push the troubled Episcopal Church into deeper crisis and draw world attention to the famously liberal diocese.
A committee of 25 priests and laypeople voted behind closed doors Tuesday night, approving a slate that included the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, a homosexual priest from San Francisco who also served during the 1980s and early 1990s in Union County parishes.See the full content of this document
