PATERSON - Six in seven Paterson children who should be receiving extra tutoring are not getting the services because there is not enough money in the school district's budget, officials say.
More than 11,300 students in Paterson public schools are eligible to receive tutoring at no cost to their families, according to the federal No Child Left Behind Act. But the federal and state governments have not provided increased funding for the program; therefore the district is able to provide services for only about 1,544 students this year, Grace Ayala, supervisor of the programs, told the Board of Education on Wednesday night.See the full content of this document
