NEWARK A federal judge said Wednesday that he will consider splitting the indictment against former Newark Mayor Sharpe James and his co-defendant, which could result in two separate trials.
After throwing out motions by lawyers for James and co-defendant Tamika Riley to dismiss the indictment, U.S. District Court Judge William Martini said he will rule by Jan. 15 on a motion to divide the case. By Jan. 4, the prosecutors must submit a final draft of the severed indictment for the judge to consider.See the full content of this document
