THE STATELY oak stands at the corner of Cedar Lane and Palisade Avenue in Teaneck, passed by hundreds of people each day. It has shaded that spot for nearly three centuries. And with any luck and the continued rallying cry of support from its neighbors, it will keep vigil there for decades to come.

The 80-foot tree was slated to be cut down by its current owner, the Union for Traditional Judaism. But it has postponed the move to preserve the property's value, Staff Writer Joseph Ax reported.
