High expectations are great to have entering a season. If you think your team is worthy to compete for at least a postseason berth, if not the title, it certainly makes things more exciting at the outset for everyone involved. That includes players, coaches, the front office and last but not least, the fans.

High expectations are great to have entering a season, but can quickly become a virus once the year progresses. In Dallas and Minnesota, for instance, the disappearing hopes of a Super Bowl appearance cost each head coach his job as his team quickly fell out of the running.
