Thanksgiving is an extra-special holiday in our multicultural family. Having emigrated from South America, we celebrate this holiday with a huge feast combining the typical Thanksgiving fare, such as turkey and stuffing, with South American treats, such as tamales, empanadas and pernil. We give thanks for all our blessings. After stuffing ourselves on all the food, we treat ourselves to pumpkin pie and a birthday cake for my son, my little turkey -- who was born on Thanksgiving Day four years ago! I may have missed that particular Thanksgiving, but each year since, my husband and I have retold the harrowing story of being in labor on the drive from Westchester County back down to New Jersey. That is our extra- special Thanksgiving blessing.
