BERGEN COUNTY public officials are lining up at the free-throw line to take shots at Newark Mayor Cory Booker. They are exercised over a letter Booker sent to Governor Corzine demanding that the Nets move to the Prudential Center. The officials are scoring points. The game remains in doubt.

We have long supported the Izod Center. It is a vital part of the Meadowlands complex. The arena, owned by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, was once home to both the Devils and the Nets. The Devils moved to Newark and the Nets were supposed to move to a new arena in Brooklyn. But delays on the Brooklyn project may prove fatal for the construction of a new arena in a bad economy.
