Summary


NEWARK Devils center John Madden doesn't remember feeling lucky after he was struck in the left cheek with the skate blade of Anaheim's Adam Oates during Game 5 of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals.

Nearly five years later, Madden wears a protective visor on his helmet and realizes that if the blade had hit him a few inches higher, he might have lost his eye. He also saw the replay of Sunday's frightening incident involving Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik and knows better than ever how fortunate Zednik is.
