New Jersey officials wondered Sunday, after a tense night in the state's 24-hour operations center, whether the state had dodged a bullet.

"I'm sort of in the dodge-the-bullet business, I guess," said Col. Rick Fuentes, superintendent of the state police, who was the first official of the day to brief reporters about Hurricane Irene's arrival.
