KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The scar on Andy Pettitte's left elbow runs in a jagged, pink line, a reminder that a lifetime of cut-fastballs wasn't free of charge. A torn flexor tendon forced Pettitte to undergo surgery last September and five months later, he's slowly returning to that perfect synchronicity, when reaching 94 mph was as easy as winding up and throwing.

These days, Pettitte's rehab is steady, but nevertheless slow. He tossed batting practice for nine minutes Friday in Astros' camp, and the good news is that the surgeons have exorcised the pain from his elbow.
