Slow Pace of Contract Talks Concerns Turnpike Workers

Summary


Contract negotiations between the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its workers are moving slower than usual and the highway's largest union says it's concerned.

The authority and the union recently agreed to extend its four- year contract for one month since negotiations hit a snag over pay and benefit issues, said Frank Forst, assistant to the president of the Local 194 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers. The contract was scheduled to expire June 30.
