POMPTON LAKES -- One by one, residents of a pollution-threatened neighborhood told state health officials about the cancers they were being treated for, or a relative was suffering from, or the tumor that killed their neighbor.

And many of the more than 500 people packing the high school auditorium Tuesday night vented frustrations a week after the state Health Department released a finding that kidney cancer rates in women and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma rates in men are significantly elevated in the neighborhood, where toxic chemical vapors are rising through the soil.
