ON THE DAY the Twin Towers fell, we became a different America. As we face this presidential election, I want that America back.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't want the smoke and ash and putrid smell of death of Sept. 11, 2001. I don't want the jagged rubble of Ground Zero. I don't want the tears shed by the living for the thousands lost. I don't want the sound of bagpipes at funerals.
