EAST RUTHERFORD The borough recently spent nearly $25,000 to purchase and install a lightning detection system on municipal athletic fields to protect players and spectators during thunderstorms.
"It's for alerting people that there is lightning moving into the area," Fire Chief Alan DeRosa said this week of the system that was installed in early May.
