Ruling Supports Dozens of Raises in Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD The borough does not need to reverse the raises of all employees listed in a controversial 2006 salary ordinance, a judge has ruled.

The Bergenfield Property Owners Association filed a lawsuit in April 2006 aimed at invalidating the ordinance that gave raises to dozens of borough employees. The group also demanded that Borough Clerk Catherine Navarro-Steinel's contract which was originally set for four years be deemed invalid. State law allows clerks to have contracts of a maximum of three years.
