9/11 Remembered in Words, Deeds, Hearts ; Our Grief Is 5 Years Old

Summary


From Ground Zero in lower Manhattan to Peace Plaza in Tenafly, New Jerseyans gathered in large crowds and in intimate groups Monday to remember those who perished five years ago in the attack that brought down the World Trade Center.

They came together beneath a partly cloudy sky whose bright sunshine evoked the incongruously glorious weather of Sept. 11, 2001. Whether they chose to mourn their loved ones where they died or where they lived, they did so resolving to keep the memories of fathers, mothers, sons and daughters and the memory of Sept. 11 itself from fading with the passage of time.
