NEW YORK -- Whatever consistency the Rangers showed for creating scoring opportunities in their last game disappeared as quickly as it came.

Instead they started slowly and became bogged down by the Islanders' physical effort. By the end of the Rangers' 2-1 loss Wednesday night, the Madison Square Garden crowd was calling for the general manager's dismissal, a chant last heard with regularity when Glen Sather also coached the team from 2003-04.
