NEWARK -- Heading into the last playoff series between the Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, the goaltending matchup looked like a mismatch.

The Devils had Martin Brodeur, a three-time Stanley Cup winner well on his way to breaking the NHL's wins record. The Hurricanes had 22-year-old rookie Cam Ward, who had all of five NHL playoff games on his resume and just happened to idolize the guy at the other end of the ice.
