Pope Benedict XVI, celebrating his first Mass in New York City, called Saturday for an end to the divisiveness that he said has plagued the Catholic Church since the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s.

"One of the great disappointments which followed the Second Vatican Council ... has been the experience of division between different groups, different generations, different members of the same religious family," the pontiff said to more than 2,000 priests, nuns and religious brothers at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
