PATERSON - Splashing paint across a three-story canvas, a group of recent high school dropouts has been transforming a blank wall on Spruce Street into living color - but they have also been working on transforming their lives.

As part of a non-profit program called YouthBuild, the 26 teenagers and young adults from Paterson are working toward their general education diplomas while learning construction skills by working on community projects - such as the mural they are painting in the downtown historic district.
