Toys "R" Us is following the lead of chains such as Wal-Mart, Target and Sears and moving to allow customers to buy items online and pick up their purchases in stores, the Wayne-based retailer said today.

The company will roll out the initiative to a limited number of Toys "R" Us stores at first. The service will be available at all Babies "R" Us stores starting Tuesday. Two Toys "R" Us stores in New Jersey, in Woodbridge and Union, will offer the service as of Tuesday. The service will eventually be expanded to all Toys "R" Us stores nationwide, a company spokeswoman said.
