PATERSON - They came from all over the city and as far as Monmouth County looking for a good time. But what they got instead was their cars confiscated and a fat fine to get them back.

In addition to charges of soliciting a prostitute, 14 of 16 johns arrested during the past two weeks each paid at least $1,500 to recover their vehicles under a city ordinance designed to deter the illegal sex industry. The city has thus far collected $24,600 in fines, which, police say, will go into the general fund.
