In a newspaper career of 23 years, the last 17 with The Record, Pat proved it was possible to be both loved and feared - loved by her colleagues and her readers, feared by public officials with something to hide.

"I never saw Pat without a twinkle in her eyes and a wide smile on her face," said Malcolm A. Borg, chairman of North Jersey Media Group, which owns The Record. "She never showed any signs of distress or of being aggravated. She just smiled, warmly, disarming the other person."
