ATHENS, Greece - Every four years now, they come to the Olympics with hopes of transcending the sport, turning the WNBA into the true fifth professional league. Still, so much of American women's basketball appeal in the Games is that it isn't the American men's game. For two weeks, everyone celebrates the selflessness and fundamentals of the females. And then they return home and start ignoring them all over again.

It's the oddest thing. When women's basketball comes to the Olympics, it's considered a blessing that they don't play basketball like the men. The rest of the time, it's considered a curse.
