HACKENSACK -- A 14-year-old from Paramus who said he gave up a "lot of TV time" to study for the North Jersey Spelling Bee finals won the championship Thursday in a nail-biting showdown with an 11- year-old from Boonton.

Michael Sun jumped and threw his arms up in triumph after nailing the word "embrasure," from the French for a parapet opening for a cannon.
