Negotiations to permanently restore funding to Montclair State University's student newspaper broke off without resolution Tuesday, the paper's editor said.

With no additional talks scheduled, it is likely that university funding of The Montclarion will be cut off Friday. The Student Government Association agreed to temporarily restore funding through the end of February so both sides could resolve a dispute touching on issues ranging from the paper's status as a club to its exercise of freedom of the press.
