ATLANTA - Good thing the United States has to send only two pairs to the world championships. Even those two barely belong.

Rena Inoue and John Baldwin Jr. won their first pairs title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Friday night, but this was a decision by default. They slipped and slid, bobbled and wobbled, and looked more like pretenders than champions.
