WHAT'S NEW: Bergen County will begin accepting bids this month for a road project in Ramsey that would add left-turn lanes to the intersection of West Main Street and North Central Avenue and a traffic light at North Central and Darlington avenues.
BACKGROUND: County and municipal officials began discussing the project more than a year ago. It is meant to improve safety and ease backups on West Main Street that extend to Cherry Lane during the morning rush and at school dismissal. Traffic that is trying to go straight through the intersection cannot get by the left-turning vehicles because the roadway is too narrow. Officials hope to cure the problem by creating left-turn lanes for the eastern and western approaches to the intersection. The western approach will have to be widened by 5 to 6 feet on the northern side. The eastern approach already has an extra lane, which is currently being used for right turns.See the full content of this document
