Ex-Mvc Clerk Indicted in Title Scheme ; 13 Others Charged in Alleged Fraudulent Document Operation

A former Motor Vehicle Commission clerk was indicted Wednesday on charges of creating phony titles for hundreds of luxury or low- mileage cars -- some of them severely damaged -- then selling the documents to towing companies and secondhand dealers, authorities said.

Thirteen other suspects also were charged in the alleged scheme, which began in January 2006 and operated for nearly two years, according to the state Attorney General's Office. Seven more defendants are awaiting sentencing after they admitted to obtaining fraudulent titles, the office said.
