On Monday night, Spitzer was weighing whether to resign, according to The New York Times Web site.

"I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself," Spitzer said at a brief news conference with his shaken wife, Silda, standing by his side. "I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family."
