Monthly Home Prices See Uptick in April, but 2.8% Drop From Year Ago

What's new: Home prices in the New York metropolitan area, which includes North Jersey, dropped 2.8 percent in April, compared with April 2010, the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index reported Tuesday. However, prices rose 0.8 percent from March to April -- probably reflecting the seasonal upswing in home buying activity, which tends to rise in the spring.

Nationally, home values dropped 4 percent from a year earlier, although they rose 0.7 percent from March to April.
