1,200 Plows Mobilized in Preparation for Snow ; Little Accumulation Expected in North

State highway workers were on standby Sunday, poised to hit roads with 1,200 plows and 600 salt spreaders to ease a Monday commute that could be made tricky by a winter storm.

Snow began falling in New Jersey early Sunday evening, spreading up from the southern part of the state, where the heaviest snowfall was expected. North Jersey was expected to be spared significant accumulations, but another storm Tuesday and Wednesday could be more serious, forecasters warned.
