Summary


MADISON Women who took Wyeth's hormone replacement drug Prempro for more than five years have a greater risk for cancer even after stopping treatment, according to a follow-up study of the Women's Health Initiative, which tied the therapy to cancer and heart disease.

Cancer developed in 281 women who took Prempro, compared with 218 women who received a placebo, in a study of 15,730 women published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The risk of heart attacks also dropped in women who stopped the hormone therapy.
