Swimming always made Sylvia Hyra feel good. So she wasn't about to give it up without a fight. Even after cancer and treatment took part of her leg, wrecked her hip and threatened her heart.

On this day, Hyra, 16, a junior at Clifton High School, is at the Clifton Boys and Girls Club, hoping to swim for the Mustangs. After serving as a manager for the team last season, she insisted that coach Andrea Bobby let her swim for the team this season.

"She started talking about it at the end of the season," said Bobby. "She said, 'I enjoyed being here, but I want to be in the water,' so I gave her some stretch cords to work on the strength in her arms over the summer. She's really skinny."

Her doctors don't like it, her parents, Paul and Teresa, probably aren't too...
