EAST RUTHERFORD - The frenetic pace of short-field practice games often tests a soccer player's reaction speed and a coach's patience. Designed to help players work better in a fast-paced setting, the drills can highlight a team's strengths - or weaknesses - when playing under pressure.

The MetroStars don't look like a team feeling much pressure. The youngest team in Major League Soccer went through practice this week with an air of confidence that wasn't there last year, when the team endured a late-season swoon, capped by a quick playoff exit. Even though they face a D.C. United team tonight that has had their number this year and won their past three meetings, the Metros head into the postseason with a relaxed mind-set due in no small part to their youth.
