Lyndhurst Municipal Budget [Corrected 02/02/09]

Summary

What's new: A $30.63 million budget that includes a $23.5 million municipal tax levy.

What it means: The spending plan represents an $8,000 decrease from last year's budget. The tax levy is up $791,000. Officials said some of that increase has already been paid by homeowners, who were hit with a spike in their August and November tax bills in anticipation of the new budget, which operates on a fiscal year. Mayor Richard DiLascio said the town is also using "some of our surplus to help offset costs," which will keep the next tax bill the same as last year's. The owner of a home assessed at $411,000 -- the town's average -- would pay a municipal tax bill of $2,717. The municipal tax rate remains at 66.1 cents on each $100 of assessed value.
