Joe Torre is counting down the days (or is it hours?) before George Steinbrenner finally ends his 12-year run in pinstripes. It's hardly the graceful exit the future Hall of Famer imagined; Torre complained that he was turned into a prisoner in his Westchester County home on Tuesday as tabloid photographers took up sniper positions on the street.

Out of respect to their outgoing manager, the Yankees made no announcements on Tuesday. A firing just 12 hours after the final out of the AL Division Series would've been more than punitive, it would've defaced Torre's legacy in the Bronx. Hence, general manager Brian Cashman said there would be "no heavy lifting" until the end of the week, at which point it's a near-certainty Torre will be set free.
