Yet all too frequently, people leave their common sense in cold storage and wind up losing money. A current example of this is the willingness of some to sit down and write a check when they get announcements by e-mail that the ex-daughter-in-law of the former Nigerian oil minister's late sister's nephew will send them a gazillion dollars if only they first send her $10,000.
