An immigrant Mahwah woman whose American husband died in the 2003 Staten Island Ferry crash cannot stay in the United States because they were married less than two years, a federal appeals court panel has decided.

The Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which issued its 2-1 findings Monday, agreed with the decision of immigration officials to terminate Jamaican immigrant Osserritta Robinson's pending green-card application for permanent residency. They did so because of a law that holds that in a marriage of less than two years, the death of a citizen spouse ends the immigrant's eligibility for a green card.
