WAYNE Neil Coleman, a sixth-grader from Tenafly Middle School, shot down nearly every word the judges threw at him Thursday night, earning the right to compete in the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C.

It took 10 rounds of words to top runner-up Alvin George, an eighth-grader from David E. Owens Middle School in New Milford.
