VERNON Six animal rights activists were convicted Tuesday of civil disobedience for jumping a police barricade during a demonstration at Wawayanda State Park on Dec. 10, the final day of the black bear hunt.

Municipal Court Judge C. William Bowkley Jr. found each of the six defendants guilty of obstruction and fined each $350, plus court costs. The judge then immediately stayed the fines after the six defendants said they would appeal the guilty verdicts to state Superior Court in Newton.
