ELMWOOD PARK Parents, teachers and staff members at a beloved preschool say they are devastated after learning this week that their decades-old community institution is on the verge of closing.

The Beth-Am Nursery School has cared for children from infants to kindergartners in the basement of the Elmwood Park Jewish Center on Gilbert Avenue for 33 years. But the building's new owner a relocating church has decided not to renew the school's lease at the end of the month, forcing nearly 100 families from the school, as well as 27 staff members.
