A state judge said Friday that he is slashing in half a jury's $1 million award to an Old Tappan man who passed out in a snowbank after a New Year's Eve party and sued police for not finding him sooner.

"There is no way I am going to let this verdict stand," Superior Court Judge Charles J. Walsh said in Hackensack. "If you want to know what my conscience tells me, I was shocked by that award."
