SOUTH HACKENSACK - The Township Committee's decision to interview candidates for police chief instead of promoting the next person in line is drawing criticism.
Police Chief Gene Roman, who is on terminal leave and is set to retire on Dec. 31, has recommended that Capt. Michael Frew take over the top post once he retires. He says the committee's move to accept applications from others in the department with a minimum of five years' experience is wrong.
